Accommodation in Mie prefecture and meet 'Ama-san' - simple stay and local activities
If you are looking for a nice place to visit in Mie prefecture, don't miss out meeting 'Ama divers' of Mie prefecture.
Ama, so called 'Ama-san', is a traditional job and a lifestyle of seawomen.
Ama has more than 2000 years of history, and they exist only in South Korea and Japan.
There are approximately 1600 Ama divers in Japan, and Ise-Shima (especially Toba and Shima) is the most numerous place of Ama.
It's traditionally a women's job. Girls started diving at the age of 15 or 16, and they will dive into the ocean until they become over 80 years old. Their longlife and helth is a mystery, but visitors will fall in love with those charming old ladies whenever they talk to Ama grannies.
Guest House AMARGE, a small guesthouse for maximum 7 people, is owned by one of the youngest Ama-san in Ijika village.
Guests can use the entire one-story building with comfortable facilities and amenities while enjoying "stay as like you live there".
Let's enjoy the life of a coutryside, and enjoy knowing it from inside.
