What is 'Ise Shrine' and why it's so important?
Did you know that there are 80,000 shrines in Japan?
Since the number of convinience stores in Japan are about 50,000, you can imagine how many shrines we have in this country.
And Ise Shrine is the top shrine of those 80,000. There are 'Naiku (The inner shrine)' and 'Geku (The outer shrine)', and both of them locate in Ise city, Mie prefecture.
It says Nauku is where the sun goddess, Amaterasu, dwells. And the emperors of Japan are believed as direct descendants of Amaterasu.
From ancient times, Ise Shrine was the place that all Japanese people dreamed to visit once in a lifetime.
