Do you want to meet real Ama divers? Visit Guest House AMARGE in Toba City, Mie Prefecture!
Hello, I'm Rikako, who runs a guesthouse for rent entire one-story house and working as an Ama in Toba City, Mie Prefecture.
Due to the influence of the corona virus, our guesthouse is currently closed until the end of this year, but usually from April to August, domestic or international tourists come to our small fishing village and enjoy the life of Ama. We always have good time together, having a barbecue right near the guesthouse and have some fun.
I've been doing Ama for 5 years, and my husband, Tatsuya Sato, a freelance marine biologist, we share a unique lifestyle that can only be experienced here with visitors.
Ama's job is always up to the weather.
Even if the sky is clear, you can't fish if the sea is rough, so it's a really nature-dependent job.
Many people say that they want to see our work in the sea, but it is not always possible to show the fishing scenery.
Nobody can control the weather.
If you are lucky, you can come with me to the Ama's hut and see how prepare for diving and spend some time chatting in the Ama hut.
My Ama hut is currently used by myself, so you can spend your time freely without worrying about other Ama ladies.
Of course, there are some other Ama huts used by senior Ama women next to my hut, so you can see the veteran Ama's fishing as well.
But please remember. Most of the old ladies are pretty shy, so please do smile when you talk to them.
Ama Hut and fishing tours are basically from 10 am to 3 pm . We starts from the next morning after your stay, and we will head to the Ama's hut together.

We also can provide tours of Ama hut experience for anyone who just want to visit the real Ama's hut without accommodation arrangement. Please feel free to contact us from "Inquiries".
(Recently, there are many sales-related phonecalls, so I often don't answer. It's better to send us a message.)
It is a shame to come to Ise-Shima and return without knowing about Ama because here is the "mecca" of those Japanese sea women.
When you have a chance to come to Toba City, Mie Prefecture, please consider staying at our guesthouse where you can experience the lifestyle of a real Ama.
I'm looking forward to seeing you!
